The Akaname is a Japanese spirit that is known for its long tongue and toxic saliva. The filth licker folklore is told that he comes into bathrooms that are left dirty and licks them 'clean' with his poisonous spit this is very interesting as it holds a huge amount of symbolic relivance in comparison to other bogeyman, it acts as an explanation to children about the bacteria and fungus that would grow in a bathroom which was traditionally wooden if left uncleaned.
My designs varied somewhat keeping to the traditional illustrations of the creature focusing on the large tongue. As I developed my concept I lengthen the neck into the head and open the mouth wider to make it appear more snake like and monstrous than just a long tongued human.
