Character Development: Yara-Ma-Yha-Who
The Yara-Ma-Yha-Who is a beast from Aboriginal lore. He is seen a a red creature that lives in trees, he attacks people who rest alone under the trees by sucking out their blood with her sucker like fingers he then rests and drinks water. I found this creature to be very interesting mostly due to how specific the lore is.
His design was primary based off of a Cane Toad as they were considered a huge problem to the Australian ecosystem and I wanted to create an element of fear and aspects of a creature alien to its surroundings. I decorated my design with patterns inspired by aboriginal inspired patterns. I wanted him to look very tribal and ancient. I also drew aspects from the blue ringed octopus a species native to Australia I wanted to draw from its suction cups and somehow and apply them to my design, I used these on the end of the fingers, tongue and I altered his middle toe to be tentacle-esq.
