Research: David A Carter

David A. Carter is an Illustrator who creates various different impressive pop-up books. A book I have been looking at is called Blue 2, it is a pop-up book that can actually appeal to people of all ages it has a huge range of extraordinarily technically impressive pieces of engineering in its pages, its is meticulous and complicated. The pieces inside are all very abstract and interactive which helps in this books purpose and goal, to find the Blue 2. Its interactivity could be something I can drawing into my own work. The writing is simple but cryptic using bold letter to hint at the location of the Blue 2. I really like this book but I feel like it may be far too abstract to fully draw from this as a resource though it is a goal to aim for on a technical level.

I also looked at a very different series he has created which are books focused around cartoon insects. These are clearly aimed at a much younger audience but is still technically impressive. The book I looked at was Alpha Bug a pop-up book aimed to teach children the alphabet, it contained both pop-up and interactive elements within the pages. I liked the simplicity of the white background in comparison to characters as I felt it draw the pop-up out further than having a complex background would of. I like the use of wide variety of different mechanisms as it adds a lot of variation to the characters and prevent the concept from quickly becoming stale.
