Gryla is an evil infamous troll witch from Iceland she has had 12 husbands many of which she has eaten, many of her own children who are known as the Yule Lads but she is mostly well known for her habit of capturing children and eating them in many vile ways. Gryla is incredibly famous and one of most well known folklore beasts.
My design for Gryla had a very traditional focus I drew simple trolls with traditional elements with a long nose and sharp teeth, trolls traditionally have large hulking bodies which I attempted to recreate that. I looked at many images of tradition illustrations and costumes for inspiration. My finalized design features her having three eyes, this was a reference to the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim which is based heavy around European folklore, literally no other reason.
Overall I'm very happy with my design process and outcome, I think it looks satisfyingly grotesque.
