Character Design: Tata Duende

Tata Duende is a small goblin like man who protects the forest, he has no thumbs, backwards feet ans wears a large brimmed hat. He originates from Belize folklore, Tata Duende is a very interesting creature has his myth not only teaches children respect but teaches them it is important of not to disturb nature.

I started by sketching initial ideas for this creature, most of them resembled a fat little gnome man. I decided to further my design based on a smaller scribble within my designs, this design was far more wood like, I liked the idea of him being almost puppet like being made of wood and other natural occurring materials. I was amused by the concept of having a creature that would shamble and chatter though the dark wood, something animated and twitchy.
